Still Stage 3!
Misty and I just got back from NYC. We visited the hospital this morning to get Misty’s staples and stitches out and discuss the pathology of her tumor with the neuro-surgeon. Pieces of the tumor were sent away to the lab to get studied and determine the stage (or grade) of the cancer. Depending on how quickly the cells are reproducing and other factors (like if it has its own blood supply), a grade is assigned to the cancer. The good news is that the biopsy from the first surgery is back and its still a stage 3 (there are 4 total stages). This is the same grade as it was a few months ago, so from a medical perspective, this is the best that could have been hoped for. Generally, when a tumor becomes agressive after being supprespsed by a chemo, the resulting cancer is a higher grade. We are waiting to get the pathology on the second surgery but this is very good news. Our spirits are lifted today.
