seizure (updated)
ORIGINAL POST:
It’s 5:45am and Misty just had a bad seizure…it lasted a good 20 minutes and had her whole body shaking.
I’ll write more later, but I wanted to ask everyone to pray. If she has another we are back in the hospital. I think that would destroy her spirit.

UPDATE:
I wake up to misty’s backhand haphazardly hitting me between my shoulder and my ear. I look at the clock and it’s 5:21am. I’m a little groggy as I didn’t get to sleep till about 3:30am (I was working on the calvarylighthouse.org website). Still it was only a split second and I’m up on my knees hovering over her trying to figure out whats wrong. This road hasn’t exactly been short and I’m long since programmed to respond quickly to these things. She mumbles a few unintelligible sounds and I notice that her eyes are rolling back into her head…and it starts. Her eyes are blinking erratically, her face is making strange twitching movements that i don’t think could be repeated unless under the duress of something like a seizure, and her entire body starts shaking.
Unlike my “I can handle it” responses in the past, the first thing I did here was pray. I do not for a second though believe we should ignore practical ways to deal with things. I have medicine for this, so I’m going to use it. Unfortunately, it’s not at the bedside. She hasn’t had a seizure in a while, and all her symptoms are improving, so I hardly expected this. I actually had to run outside barefoot and grab her pocketbook out of the car to get her medicine. I have a nasal spray Midazolam and dissolving tabs of Ativan. They are some pretty serious stuff. Well, 5 minutes or so and she is coming out of it. Both of these drugs relax the brain to stop it from sending extra electrical signals (that’s basically what a seizure is)but in the process you get a heavy dose of a sedative. So, literally, minutes after she came out of it, she was asleep and with the exception of an hour for breakfast, she slept till 4pm.
The rest of the day was wonderful. She woke up wanting to get out of the house and go over her parent’s house for dinner (who had come over at 6am to pick up olivia). She ate very well for lunch and dinner and actually came back to yesterday’s baseline function shortly after waking up (generally, with misty, a seizure like that will leave her more impaired for a while after – I say generally, but she has only had one or two others that were this bad). She felt good the rest of the day. She even played a while with Olivia :)
I’m pretty relieved that we got through the rest of the day without another episode. I REALLY didn’t want to end up telling misty I had to take her to the hospital once again. So yeah, from breakfast on…it was a pretty nice day. Olivia is spending the night over Misty’s parents’ house just in case…but I’m feeling pretty good about it now.

Hey, I am praying to. Crazy, but this morning at 5:45 am, I was on the beach, reading my Bible and flipped to Psalms 93. It was foggy and the ocean was raging, and verse 4 says, ” The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters than the mighty waves of the sea.” That just hit me of God’s power, and I began Misty was on my mind, so I began praying for her. Just wanted to share that with you.

I am praying for you all daily. I often get distracted and forget to pray for people that I should, however the Lord just keeps you, Misty, and Olivia on my mind and in my heart every single day. Thanks for the honor of praying for your family. My specific prayer today is NO MORE SEIZURES and continued positive improvement.
Darren,
Thank you for the update. Yesterday I put a special pray request card into my church, St Pauls UMC in Brick, for Misty, Olivia and you. I will pray even harder for Misty and send up special prayers for no more seizures. I know that you know God’s loving hands are wrapped around you all.
May God heal Misty, body and soul. May her pain cease, may her strength increase, may her fears be released, may blessings, love, and joy surround her. God Bless.
Just wanted to let you know that we put Misty on a prayer list here at a church in town. So more and more will be praying. Love you Misty,Darren, and Olivia. May God heal and bless you all.
Love, Aunt Amy, grandma,and Lacey.
We will be praying for both of you! I even have my small group here in CO praying so know there are people all over that are praying for healing for Misty!

I’m praying Darren. I know that God hears us all. Several weeks ago, you mentioned that Misty asks us to keep praying and you spoke about our faith. So, tell Misty we are all praying and we believe. She is believing God for her complete healing and that faith inspires me to keep trusting and believing. Let our faith be greater than this mountain, and it too shall be removed.

Tell Misty today that I love her. I love you too Darren and your little Olivia too. She is a precious gem and looks so much like you and Misty. It’s amazing to see your faces in hers. (Smile)

I’m so glad that Misty came out of the other seizure. It’s good that she felt good the rest of the day. We pray for her, you, Olivia and the family every day. God is going to take all the troubles away from you. God is going to heal Misty. There are so many praying for her and believe. Misty is very strong and her faith is even stronger. Tell her that we love her, kiss Olivia for us and tell Mike, my brother, and Claudia that we love them.
Love, Amy, grandma, and Lacey~

Praise the Lord that Misty came out of the seizure okay. I prayed several time during the day yesterday and we prayed for Misty at a committee meeting I attended last night at my church. I know God’s loving and healing hand is reaching down and touching Misty. God Bless you, Misty and precious little Olivia
Hoping that tonight is a good night for the 2 of you. Praying for Gods hand to heal her and keep her safe. Good night and love to you all.

Darren:
Seizures are not something easy to take. We have had a total of about 12 of them between our (now) 5-year old twins, Riley and Alex. They get febrile seizures (fever-induced), and thank goodness, they are not likely to continue after age 5-6 (”normal” in 1 in 20 kids who get a rapid, high fever). But I’ll never forget the utter feeling of helplessness and fear we felt the first time it happened, and it never got a lot easier (except that, like you, we had medicine we could administer to sometimes make it better).
One time Riley had a seizure that lasted 90 minutes, all the way to the hospital on the ambulance and then for a long time thereafter. They kept giving him Ativan or something similar until at one point they said we’ll have to put him on a respirator because his breathing muscles will soon stop with any additional drugs. After stabilizing him, he was later flown to Yale, New Haven by helicopter for a stint of analysis and observation.
It is those moments as parents that make you get closer to God, in case you’ve strayed… And I’m grateful for every moment of each of our childrens’ lives. I can certainly see how important your faith must be to you.
I pray for you daily and especially hearing about yesterday. I can relate (sort of).
You’re loved and so is Misty (and of course, Olivia).
I hope your dad had fun seeing his siblings this weekend!
Love Michael (and Lisa)
