We have had a total of about 12 of them between our (now) 5-year old twins, Riley and Alex. They get febrile seizures (fever-induced), and thank goodness, they are not likely to continue after age 5-6 ("normal" in 1 in 20 kids who get a rapid, high fever). But I'll never forget the utter feeling of helplessness and fear we felt the first time it happened, and it never got a lot easier (except that, like you, we had medicine we could administer to sometimes make it better). One time Riley had a seizure that lasted 90 minutes, all the way to the hospital on the ambulance and then for a long time thereafter. They kept giving him Ativan or something similar until at one point they said we'll have to put him on a respirator because his breathing muscles will soon stop with any additional drugs. After stabilizing him, he was later flown to Yale, New Haven by helicopter for a stint of analysis and observation. It is those moments as parents that make you get closer to God, in case you've strayed... And I'm grateful for every moment of each of our childrens' lives. I can certainly see how important your faith must be to you. I pray for you daily and especially hearing about yesterday. I can relate (sort of). You're loved and so is Misty (and of course, Olivia).
