another night in the hospital
Today we woke up on the lovely 5th floor (affectionately called 5-B) of Monmouth Medical Center. I looked over at Misty (who wanted to sleep with her back proped up quite a bit more than I’d expect is comfortable) and saw her struggling to say something to me. Honestly, when I heard her voice, it felt like I got punched in the stomach…she wasn’t able to say a word. Every sound that came out was unintelligible. I hated it. The seizure was pretty bad and caused some trauma in the brain so she won’t be able to speak (even the very impaired few word vocabulary she had last week) for a little while. A bit later, after she ate a pretty good breakfast, Misty was making faces at me like something was wrong. I saw her eye start twitching, so I ran to get the nurse; she was having a seizure. So, after breakfast she had a healthy 2mg shot of ativan for dessert. I’m really getting sick of needing to drug her up to stop seizures…
Basically, we are here until the seizures are under control. Hopefully, the increased dose of regular seizure medicine that she got today (we significantly increased her Lamictal dose) will stabilize her and tomorrow will be better.
After breakfast, Misty slept for a few hours before waking and eating lunch. (On a bright note, I’m surprised how well she’s eating). She thought she felt another seizure coming on at lunch, but it never materialized. Unfortunately, around 4:30, another one did come on…so she got another shot. With the seizures and extra medicine, today has been mostly just eating and sleeping for her. She can’t tell me anything, so even communicating the need to go to the bathroom has been a problem. Oh well, the day is over. Tomorrow will be better. Misty just fell asleep minutes ago…she fell asleep to my reading the psalms.

Darren,
Hug Misty for us. We know how amazingly strong she is. Also with you by her side, and the power of God, she will come through this. You also are an amazing man and your strenght runs through her. Between the 2 of you, God, the family, and the millions that are praying for her, she is going to be healed from this.
Love and God bless,
Aunt Amy, grandma, and Lacey
I’ve never prayed to God so much for a miracle. You both are on my mind a lot. I stop to pray for Misty many times during the day. I can only wait on God and keep hoping that her day of recovery is coming soon. God Bless you Darren. You are like an angel on earth. Have a blessed day.
Our family is praying for Misty and for God to touch her like never before. I’ve been with you in prayer every day for the last several months….we love you bro.
Hey Darren, Just take a deep breath and keep going forward… one day at a time… one step at a time… our God will see you through this rough patch of road. Love hugs and prayers to all of you.
I love you guys. Darren, thank you for the updates, it keeps me focused on what God is doing…MIRACLES AND THE POWER OF PRAYER. Misty is so blessed to have you as her soul-mate and strength when hers is challenged. Sleep well and kiss your girls for me. And, remember, God is certainly using you in wondrous ways and you are proof of what the true power of faith and unconditional love means.
