audiobooks
I’m slightly addicted to audio books. If you have been aroudn for very long, you will have inevitably observed this. I was thinking about this today beacuse I scheduled a work trip to Atlanta this month, so I will need to find a good book for the flight and time in the rental car. Well, the other day someone asked me where to buy them. Yes, this has always been a problem. You go into your local borders and all they have is 4 shelves of books by Obama, McCain, even Palin…and then some CS Lewis and the occaisional John Maxwell leadership book.
I have found a bunch on amazon over the years, but my latest favorite is:
http://christianaudio.com/
I like it for a couple reasons. First, they have download options. When I need something last minute (this is 95% of my buying timeframe) its right there. Also, the flexibility of downloading as an MP3 saves so much time if you are ending up on an mp3 player. And most newer cards now support MP3s right in the dashboard CD player (I’m a big fan of this new feature). Oh…and they also give away a free book every month. It’s worth the visit just to grab the free book.

Thanks for the tip!
Genius. Thanks for sharing this.
I have bought them from i tunes for my children before long trips. The library also has them.
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this tip!
I’m not so sure the boyfriend will totally love my audiobook choice for tonight’s 8-hour trip to his hometown for Easter, but too bad!! I’m downloading one right now! :)
Brilliant!
Once I stop commuting into the city I will be driving so much more and I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to read as much. Audiobooks are a great idea!! Now I just have to figure how to get them to play in my car, since I only have a tape deck!
Karen,
itunes does have them, but unfortunately they make it VERY hard to then burn a CD. The files I have purchased are
1) too long to burn to a CD
2) encoded so i can’t open them in any editor and cut them down
So you are limited to use only on an ipod.
And the library is a GREAT suggestion. Should have mentioned that. They are sometimes light on the theology type books i often read, but have a plethora of novels and such for free.
Hi Darren,
Have you heard of Karen Kingsbury. She writes really good stories, if your in the mood for that kind of book. The very first story I read of hers was called ON EVERY SIDE. It was such a good story that I couldn’t put it down and I ended up reading the book in one day.
(Smile) Are you into childrens novels. They can be some of the best books ever written. There is one story whom the author’s name escapes me now, but the name of the book is called BUD NOT BUDDY. It is read by John Avery. It is excellent. Another of my favorite children’s novels is called ROLL OF THUNDER HEAR MY CRY, by Mildred Taylor. I do not remember who reads it, but it is another excellent story to listen too. Both of these books are Newberry Award Winners and are wonderful.

I love audio books too, and I usually get them from either the actual authors’ websites, or bestbookbuys.com. You can find EVERYTHING there, and it compares prices for you, you can get them used or new, from a choice of sites- it’s great! Check it out!
I truly appreciate the imput on audio books, I am new to this and the I-pod so this information in very useful.
